About me
My names Scott Thompson. I started life as a self-taught programmer. Now with over a decade of commercial experience working within “Software as a Service” companies and practically no experience writing (so this blog could be interesting).
Career wise, I now work in senior management positions where I can make more of a difference within companies and people’s lives than being a humble programmer. However, in my free time I still love programming. I got into tech through programming and I will always be a programmer at heart.
A few highlights from my past include being promoted several times from programmer to enterprise architect and finally serving on the board of directors as a Technical Director. Also worked as a Technical Director for the largest privately held software company in the UK.
Few of my beliefs;
- Be the change, lead by example
- Treat others how you want to be treated yourself
- Knowledge is only power if you use it
- Learn from other people’s mistakes
About this blog
My purpose for writing this blog is to help individuals passionate about tech to get a tech job in the commercial world and help those already in a tech job to get better at what they do or climb the promotional ladder.
My plan is to write in depth posts using my personal knowledge and experience in tech to help broaden your understanding of sometimes complex subjects within the corporate tech world. My initial aim is to publish a post once every 2 weeks during the weekend(s) as my free time allows. Posts will cover a wide range of tech subjects such as;
- Programming
- Psychology
- Architecture
- Team Structures
- Tech Stacks
- DevOps
- Scalability
- Hosting
- Testing
- People Management
- Financial Budgeting
- Leadership
- Reporting
- Corporate Structures
- Culture
- UX/UI
- Commercial & Corporate Strategy
- Customers (sales, support, marketing, etc)
- Product Development Life Cycles
- Project Management & Methodologies
- And more…
I’m ALWAYS looking for ways to improve this blog, make it easier for you to consume the content, topics you would like me to cover and general feedback. Even just a “hi” is always welcome.
P.S. Heads ups, I’m not a professional writer so expect a few quirks here and there.
